3/5 movie is fatally flawed. You can’t see the characters emotions.
2/5
good premise, great soundtrack, bad execution
the podcast critics () adore this film. I love lesbian films. but then they were shocked and outraged france submitted Les Miserables as their film instead of this one for the oscars
Wonderful film from the director of French blassic Girlhood that was one of the front runners for the Palme d'Or until Parasite snatched it up. It did walk away with Best Screenplay but it definitely feels like it could've taken a bigger prize because while the writing is great, the acting, cinematography and overall direction are goddamn special too and it instantly shot into my Top 3 for the year. A female painter is hired to secretly paint the portrait of an arranged bride-to-be, and while the contrast in personalities between the two could not be bigger, they slowly grow close together. All of which may sound very traditional but this is one of the few female empowerment films that actually feels genuine and real, simply because it's about women finding support in each other in a patriarchic society rather than some forced 'overcoming the odds' tripe.
.
This post randomly makes it very clear to me how dumb @HHR is for thinking Carol is a top 10 film of the decade instead of La Vie d'Adèle or The Handmaiden or really anything that could actually pass for a good film instead of that laughably unsubtle bore.the podcast critics () adore this film. Rewatched this to see if it would pass the couch test - it didn't. Had a good time in the theater but people's reactions really enhanced this. Peele pretty much gave us a live action Junji Ito horror manga that's easier to look at. I even made the comparison in the official thread due to the final scene, but it's just like an Ito manga in the worse way. It has character, setting, even a theme, but it has barely any plot to hold it all together and what is there is largely nonsensical. It even ends on the same note Gyo did: nothing is resolved and everything's just fukked because....it is.
Peele is 1-1 so far.
Just saw this on starz. My god
Life as a shorty shouldn't be so rough
Season 1 I hate watched. but trust me stick with it. Season 2 is an all-timer and you will do a complete 180. Season 3 was dope af too.trying to get into The Leftovers, since I see it's showing up on all kinda folks' lists as far as top 10 of the decade

Dope movie that still works only fault I had were the lame excuses they made up for characters to attack Sarah, in the classroom and in the clinic scenes.
They really had me thinking Julia Stiles was fine in this, then you can watch her in anything else and she's huff
