The latest movie by Kim Ki-duk about a North Korean fisherman who accidentally finds his boat drifting to South Korea. There he undergoes endless interrogation to make sure he's not a spy, targeted by a ruthless intelligence officer but protected by a young bodyguard. All the man wants is to return to his family, but the longer he stays imprisoned, the more difficult it will be for him to go back to his old life where the North Korean intelligence service is waiting to question him too.
Even without the current political situation in Korea this is a deep, and layered exploration of a country that is caught between two identities, both of which try to make their reality look nicer than it really is. It cleverly plays into topics like patriotism and materialism, but most of all the futility of trying to claim a citizen's rights as your own. Not much for entertainment, but very important education.
