Cold Day in July. It starred Michael C Hall from Dexter. The plot had me like at points but the movie had a great story and outstanding cinematography. I think the cinematographer Ryan Samul got a bright future. Overall decent flick.

I didn't get some of the plot.

• Why did they try to kill the old man? They said the son was in witness protection and it was a setup to hide his new life but... how did they know Richard (Michael C. Hall) was gonna kill the burglar?
• Let's say it was guaranteed he was gonna kill the burglar, why would Witness Protection (the government) just be OK with that? And be OK
  
• Why did they scope out the VHS store? Just to see what time they close? When it was time to go they were honking the horn like crazy and that big Mexican dude didn't even turn his head? If he did he would've saw the same people that jumped him not long before. It might've even been the same car.
  
• This is small but, after all that scoping of the VHS store they go back to the house and park a few houses away. It's three men in the front seat of a truck looking mad suspicious yet no one even looks at them?

I enjoyed the movie. Part of me was like but part of me was like .

Disturbing, I was sick to my stomach in some scenes to be honest. Like there's been more graphic violence in movies but a lot of the torture porn movies you see you just don't really care about what's happening, here thanks to the characterization and time frame, right at the end of WW II in Italy, you get the sense of serious shyt going down and a lot of it is pretty tense. You can read a lot into what's going on too, a whole bunch of stuff on fascism, totalitarianism, how power can warp people, Nazi regime etc etc. Lot of mentions of Nietzsche and the like, a European movie in other words

I think it's worth watching if you can get past the subject matter, the direction is really good, some beautiful shots and very dramatic moments. Seems like an important movie to me but I can't really in good conscience ''recommend'' it
