Liked the way the film dove deep into the killer’s daily routine, even his failed attempts, and the boiling obsession from Rex over Saskia’s abduction that eventually reaches its breaking point.
Felt the ending would’ve been even more effective if it had cut from Rex passing out from those sleeping pills and directly into the scene of him waking up in the coffin, realizing he’s being buried alive. Didn’t need to see the killer shoveling dirt in between.
Dug the consistency in tone. Knew ten seconds into it that this was going to finish on a dark note. I’m pretty sure the ending as is would’ve hit me harder than it did if I wasn’t already recovering from
Speak No Evil’s absurdity.
The Vanishing feels way more realistic in what it tries to pull off.
