I saw three movies last week with my AMC pass, and they were all good.
Spencer is wacky as fukk. It's like they took Princess' Di's life and created some kind of tragic fairytale with elements from the real-life woven into it. It took me a while to get into it, but once it got going, I was really into it. I think it was a risky move to make up a fake story about a real person who is so beloved, but they pulled it off. I'm sure it will offend some though. I think Kristen Stewart is going to get some award nominations. She's actually a decent actor.
8.5/10 because it really is weird and not all of it works but it's different and took risks which I respect.
Belfast was funny and heartwarming. I wasn't sure what to expect, being that it's in black and white and about a white Irish family in the 50's but it works. The script is full of jokes and it's all-natural. It didn't feel forced. There's a great message in it about family and remembering yourself and where you came from that made me tear up at the end. They use a lot of popular tunes that could have turned this into a corny contrived mess but with the story and era they're trying to capture, it just tugs on the viewer's emotions. Great directing and acting. 9/10.
House of Gucci is probably the weakest out of this batch. The way time passage is depicted didn't quite work. It's all very fast and that means it doesn't allow for character or relationship development. So a lot of things happen and sometimes it's gripping, and other times you're like WTF, this is going too fast or it just doesn't have any depth. But, that being said it's entertaining as hell. It felt like a big screen Lifetime movie, tbh lol. Lady Gaga, Jared Leto, and Al Pacino were all really hamming it up. They looked like they were really enjoying it, but also like maybe they didn't respect the characters they were playing lol. It almost felt like they were making fun of them. Besides the god-awful accents that sounded more Russian than Italian, they were just really over the top. The only one that I felt really came to the movie to really act and tell their character's story was Adam Driver. Maybe it was the writing though. It did make me look up the real case afterward. I can say there's not a boring moment, you know shyt is going to blow up so there's this tension throughout as you wait for it to go down. 6/10?
