Man, Oscar Isaac is in everything these days it seems. Not that I’m mad about it though. He’s a great actor, deserves the shine, and carried this film hard. I enjoyed this. It’s the usual Schrader slow burn, character study centered around the themes of sin and redemption and often feels stuck in a loop.
For some reason, the TV spots and trailers made it seem like this was a ‘21’ type film and I can already see the poor souls who got baited into bringing their date along with them to watch this dark, slow-churner. This is more ‘Hard Eight’ than anything.
