only 4 teams are competing... the rest of the field shouldn't care about 6 weeks left or using 1 st on him... There is value in the fact that even though I can't keep him, 12 other teams have 0 chance at having the best player in fantasy on their team next year.

I see what you're saying, and I've made the same argument for someone with multiple 1sts or late 1st round picks to buy low on Kershaw because he'll be a top 3 or 4 pick and was the number one player in baseball even up to a month after he was hurt, that's how good he was... And nobody bit
Lot of these dudes are very conservative and don't trade at all or seriously value their picks
And there's probably a third of the league that won't even answer trade offers today on top of that
