I felt like it was an awesome territory grudge match, with a finishing sequence adapted to the current times. I wouldn't say it had anything that would stand out from most of those awesome 80's matches (besides the last 5 minutes, of course), but the fact that they were able to pull it off in 2019 was really fukking impressive. I wouldn't call what they did "smoke and mirrors", but it was certainly more welcome than your typical 2019 brawl/blood feud match. The match felt so different than anything we see nowadays that it's understandable that it gets people more hyped than usual.

Also, adding blood to a match can be as much of a plus to it than a hot crowd too, imo. Specially when it goes out of hand like this time and it's treated in an way that it feels special. Cody's blade job at All In was so bad I'm still convinced he didn't even blade and used Rock's fake blood trick :pachaha:

It really blows my mind how TSC has let that gone by without much discussion. And I think Dave has doubled down (don't ask me how) on that argument :mjlol:

"I mean, you know. It...it doesn't mean the same for wrestling. It was a business term back then you know?" :why: :dead:

I THINK what he was trying to very, very, very poorly and confusingly explain is that both words were used with the same type of vitriol behind them back in the day, not that they were the same level, but Dave gonna Dave and ramble himself into saying exceptionally stupid shyt about 95% of the time.

It wasn't bad or anything, just feels like a match that in 6 months I won't remember shyt about besides Cody's TNA level look at us fukkery entrance, Dustin bleeding everywhere, & the post match promo stuff. Meanwhile you got people like Dave (I know it's Dave & AEW) saying shyt like it's a match he'll remember for the rest of his life :yeshrug:

There wasn't one really rememberable sequence move/fukkery wise in the whole match to me that I can even think of right now & it's only a week out.

That's probably because it was a match centered around emotion and making you feel stuff more than spots and sequences. You think about a lot of the great matches in the 80s/90s and you don't remember the spots as much as what the match made you feel, which is something severely lacking 9 times out of 10 in every promotion these days that have long substituted that for physical drama with moves and near falls, which is definitely valid and often great but shyt it was nice to have a match like this again. It probably wouldn't have the weight it had if this type of match was still common. It also helped that Dustin was actually involved and great at these kind of matches when they were still the norm, as Cody vs Aldis tried a similar old school drama match and it fukking sucked.

Dave's rating scale really doesn't mean anything these days, so I just take the 5 stars to mean "he really, really liked it" (especially since he apparently said there was a BOSJ match that was better than anything on DoN that I'm absolutely positive won't get 5 stars). It was by far the best thing on the show, so I'm not mad about it.

And slightly off topic, but I've never seen a new LAX match that I've liked more than a Young Bucks match. Every time I see them on Impact, they're always doing some structure bereft bullshyt and relying on nothing more than random high spots and violence to get over. Would they even be the best team in present-day CZW or a promotion like that? I'm not saying that the Bucks can't kill a match dead by Doing Too Much (as they did on DoN), but they're far better at doing that that than new LAX are at doing the same.

I just don't get the hype with those guys. :manny:

The match was average as hell, even with the bloodshed.

Yeah I think I'd give the match 5 stars too. It told a great story, it's about creating moments and memories, I think in Dustin's career that's 1 of his most memorable matches, if I think off the top I think of the brawl against Piper and this, I realise this is fresh but I think it will be remembered as something great within his career, a high point. Cody's best match too to me, he's had some good matches but I don't feel he's had a match with as much emotiona as this. They both did a good job and stole the show.
