Cody really the prodigal son of the WWE. Everything that has happened has made him the perfect wrestler, from his confidence. win ring ability, even his lisp, there was a point where he tried to hide it , Hes really firing on all cylinders

It's WILD when you think about where he was 15 months ago. Like, he's doing all of the same shyt he did in AEW (though he's clearly on a very long leash), but it's hitting all the right notes and he's looking like he really is up next as The Ace of the company. He's breaking house show numbers, drawing big on the live shows, selling out merch, doing media tours, and being personable & likable all the while being the talented prodigy that wants to honor his daddy's legacy. His trajectory and perception turned all the way around. :mindblown:

I don't know which breh said it, but maybe it really was a case of him being a WWE product to the core in an AEW setting. Like, he's doing all the same things he did in AEW, but it came off as insincere, inauthentic and too tryhard. He was too sterilized and overproduced for what AEW is going for. But in the WWE, it's like he's just the right amount of earnest and the right amount of full of shyt for it to work as well as it does.

Like in sports, some guys just fit better in one place than they do the other.

I remember saying similar but it wasn't so much them viewing him as a WWE product as this working better in WWE than in AEW, I think they viewed Cody and The Elite the same. Best example I can give to explain is Cena because this is the Cena template WWE's running with for Cody. After the Chain Gang Solider's gone, FU becomes Attitude Adjustment and you drop a letter off STFU, you'd think you sterilized everything Cena got over with and killed him. They took the character off the streets and made it into an unwavering do-gooder that can be witty and sarcastic when he wants, created to appeal to women & children and move crazy merch. Not saying they planned it all from the start but that's what happened and because Cena's mind for the business is great he made it work.

This is similar except you don't have to condition fans to a "cleaned up" Cody. So this is easier for WWE than transitioning Cena. And because WWE has a long history with this archetype they know the right buttons to push. This isn't Cody workshopping promos with his Nightmare bus friends in AEW, which is why it's night and day even though it's the same thing. It's Cody with little or no filter in AEW vs Cody with the decades long machine behind him and pushing in WWE. Add in the differences in fans/lack of women & children watching AEW and the same character over there had nowhere to go.

I liked Cody back when he was cawdy but I wish he’d go back to trunks and the black hair. Why does he wear tights now and why are his signature moves all callbacks to dusty and dust? They both did them better he’s gotta become his own wrestler before he truly deserves the green light. He’s always been money on the mic, I’m waiting to see a new form of his persona. His springboard stunner drop-down punch cross rhodes etc sucks with this character.

It's kinda funny that Cody had a hand in the birth of AEW because without that company existing, I think his current character still wouldn't have worked because the AEW faithful would still be in the stands hijacking shows. An understated part of the WWE's current success is AEW removing a lot of those fans from their audience. The current fanbase is more willing to buy into what WWE is giving them as long as it makes sense and is executed well instead of rejecting it because they aren't giving them the outcomes they fan-booked beforehand.

There’s not that many AEW loyalist :mjlol:

It was mostly Roman getting booed as a babyface as well. Since his turn there’s been no hostility.

But when I peek in on NXT I still see the same marks trying to give the treatment to the Steiner kid.

WWE officials are reportedly thrilled with how Cody Rhodes is building a fanbase that spans multiple generations.

Rhodes has had strong merchandise sales since returning to WWE in 2022, and those numbers have picked up since he returned at the Royal Rumble last month. Now a new report from PWInsider notes that Rhodes is really moving merchandise that is targeted at younger fans.

It was noted that WWE officials are “incredibly impressed” with how much appealing Rhodes is when it comes to selling merchandise to younger fans. Rhodes is getting high internal marks and high numbers for items that are targeted at kids.

There’s a feeling within WWE that Rhodes is someone who has crossover appeal across multiple generations, with adults and children really liking him. There’s also the feeling that WWE is onto “something special” with Rhodes, and that they can use him and exploit this, in a good way, to make money and to continue to get Rhodes over so that they can position him as a top talent.

There has been lots of internal talk as of late about how Rhodes has become someone extremely popular with the younger audiences, which is a major positive for WWE.

It’s really weird how working with an introverted fanbase for 6 years brought these huge extroversions out of him but it’s working and it’s clear to see from anyone watching. He is the man in wrestling right now and the rightful heir to John Cena’s global appeal
