So you don't respect others' opinions if you disagree with it?

It depends on what the opinion is. If it's something like black people are inherently inferior to other races, then no, I won't respect that particular opinion. That doesn't mean I'm going to harm that person for having a different opinion, but I'm not going to sit in silence either.

:stopitslime:

There is a clear line between respecting someone beliefs in a higher power(s) and accepting views where rape victims are blamed for their assaults and child rapists being protected. .

you stop it slime :heh:

you know damn well that that shyt is only tolerated because we have to swallow that these people have the right to believe in this bullshyt, and that questioning why people believe in god is off limits

if the pope was the ceo of a company hed be in fukkin jail for those molestation charges and coverups. well, he prolly wouldnt because of the special treatment we give CEOs in this country. but public sentiment would for fukkin sure be a lot different

compare the avg person raised with god vs one that was not and you will see a huge difference. the person without god will face a lot more hardships

I think I keep being to vague, we on the same page for the most part I believe. You see the glass half empty in a sense I believe.

You can question why people believe in God, that's healthy discourse. What I'm referring to is the blatant disregard for another persons beliefs that are projected by some people. Anyone who believes in any higher power should be able to explain why they believe. Don't tell me what I'm saying is out of bounds.:usure:

You think its bullshyt, that's cool, you don't have to believe shyt. Hope that works out for you. But straight up calling something bs doesn't constitute a discussion. So you can throw yourself in the bushes with that. :birdman:

And about the pope and the Catholics, I agree its pretty fukked up. I would like to chat with some Catholics and see what their vibe is about everything that has taken place, and still is I guess.

Every person does have this opportunity. Many people grow up being taught about god, many people choose not to.

It's not your life that changes btw, it's the afterlife.
65-100 years here on earth vs...
eternity

:manny: honestly even from a non religious standpoint what have you got to lose?

That assumes you actually believe in an afterlife though. If you aren't convinced that an afterlife exists, then why waste the one life you have sitting in a church bored or worried about observing silly religious rules?

Plus, it seems kind of lame to just "believe" in god as an insurance policy because you're scared of death (even if many believers do). But then again, I guess any successful religion has to have some kind of punishment/reward system. :yeshrug:

I wasn't able to give up Christianity and eventually theism until I realized how foolish it was to appeal to pascal's wager. I knew I didn't have good reasons for my beliefs, but it was really that fear of hell that made me cling on to them for as long as I did. When I determined that any all-knowing being would see through my reasoning for belief, I decided that I needed a better reason. And after much more research, and no justification for belief, atheism/agnosticism is all that's left. It's an ongoing process though ... maybe I'll be convinced tomorrow.
