Why I Raise My Children Without God - CNN iReport

:ehh:

its too bad more people dont take this approach, and let their kids decide for themselves instead of shaming and guilting them into it when theyre too young to know any better. the comments are full of these kids :rudy:

for all you know, teaching your kid to accept christ as their savior is condemning them in allahs eyes, right? of course i am :jawalrus:

Were you raised without God?

i guess so. my mom was brought up religious, dad really wasnt. like i said, they let me come to my own conclusion myself, which is that god is really beyond our comprehension and certainly not anything that a human being is able to understand. im not about to take the word of some pedophile in a smock about why and how the earth and humans got here

IMO if the bible or quran is something you live by, youre just following rules made by humans. which is fine, but lets not act like you know for a fact that those words are divine

So you believe in God then.

no, i dont know that there is a god. sometimes i think about how different humans are from other animals, and how each culture has a creation myth. things like that make me think maybe, but ultimately i would say there is not a god. i once read that creationism is only still credible because it has been around the longest, which sounds about right to me.

let me put it like this: i dont believe that you, mowgli, possess any divine knowledge that i do not. you can claim to have a relationship with god, that the bible is true, that god has intervened in your life. but those claims are baseless and IMO can be chalked up to probability and hoping that there is a "god" so you can live in his afterlife

just because you believe that a jewish space zombie is sitting in the clouds with his dad keeping tabs on your life, does not mean that your belief is credible

Why did she even need to write that? Of course it's immoral to teach your kids things that you yourself do not believe. No?

My wife is catholic, and I am without faith. I told my wife that if our kids ask questions that prompt me to answer against her faith she'll just have to deal with it.
I'm not going to lie to them.

Is every word ever spoken the truth?

That right there in the bold. A lot of religions say you must accept such and such diety of your own free will, But how can you accept it truly of your own free will when you are ignorant to whats really out there. I was raised Christian and didn't explore other faiths until college. I believed in Christianity because its what my parents believed in and thats what they told me to believe in. Fear is put in you to believe these things. Also if you have free will, then how can someone have a plan for you? Your destiny is already planned out, so it doesnt matter you dont have a choice. If you dont follow the plan you are doing something wrong and will be punished. Its as if we are born as slaves to this plan. It doesnt add up. I do believe in God but not the God I've read in books or was told about. I don't have it all together, but I do have faith a God is there, not out of fear or desperation, but i dunno a God is there and its more than I can comprehend right now

So What do you mean by God is beyond our comprehension only to say *there is no god* in your next post.

Also, who are you closer to, your mother or your father.

i say use your head. how can there be one hundred different gods who supposedly created humans and the earth?

its really that simple. obviously if we were able to comprehend god, we would have something resembling a definitive answer instead of the arguments and fighting that we have over which religion is correct

as to ur question, i dont know :heh:
