I felt bad for her, regardless of whether she should have been there or not.

So it turns out Russia wants the "Merchant of Death" freed in exchange for Griner. He's an arms trafficker who pumped Africa full of weapons, the guy "Lord of War" was based on.

Reports: Russia wants 'Merchant of Death' in exchange for Brittney Griner

Rumors have been going around for months saying that this is why they kidnapped her but Russian state media is openly saying it now.

That's wild asf. Not a fair trade at all either

Why not kidnap someone more valuable? Wouldn’t be surprised if this wasn’t planned and they just decided to ask for the exchange after the fact.

Why not kidnap someone more valuable?

There's a fine line between aiming for value and creating an international incident. They want the person to be notable enough that the USA is willing to work to get them back, but not so important that it's seen as a huge breach of norms and the USA has to retaliate. If they kidnapped a government official/diplomat or some especially notable businessman, shyt would hit the fan.

Until now most of the people taken for "exchanges" have been either former US soldiers or mid-level businessmen. The sort of people who have enough sympathy or connections that American government will go out of their way to get them back but not important enough to create a diplomatic incident.

But yeah, it's hard to imagine an athlete to be important enough that they're going to give up the fukking Merchant of Death....they're literally trying to trade someone hemmed up on a pot charge for someone who was convicted of "conspiracy to kill U.S. citizens and officials, delivery of anti-aircraft missiles, and providing aid to a terrorist organization."

How is being a actual criminal, victim blaming?
SMH.
Western culture is shyt.

She was stupid and put herself in this situation by engaging in drugs and drug paraphernalia in a country that is harsh on those things.
I don't want to see anyone in a fukked up situation, but this was entirely avoidable and its entirely her fault.

We not even sure she did it tho

Victim blaming?????

:what:

85% of the world treats weed like cocaine and heroin. She shoulda known better and KNOWS better.

The lack of accountability today is pathetic.

No one saying she needs to do a serious bid and yeah should should be set free, but got damn man.
so that makes her a victim then because she is facing a serious bid and isn't free.

We hardly ever believe police in any other instance

why are y’all so quick to believe Russia ?
because it's russia and they aren't americans. they want to believe that it's a more just and honest country than america. you got folks outchea telling you X is nonsense because the western media lies and their proof is a press release from the russian govt. with no hint of irony whatsoever.

Viktor is a relic. He got no juice anymore. Russia moves weapons without him.

Griner is in her prime
