Actually I disagree. COVID fukked the money up for a lot of people, and it has scrambled life. Many white women are struggling or dealing with husbands who have lost money due to this shyt. Not just minimum wage-to-middle income people. Even people making six figures took massive losses to their 401ks.
I think a lot of white women are done with Trump and it has little to do with his policies outside of covid. They were fine with the Muslim bans and all the other nonsense, but when you fukk with the money that's the red line. Covid and the trade war have really hurt people.
The funny thing about Trump is that if he could dial it down just a bit....if he was anyone else, he'd prob sail to re-election. Instead who he is as a personal mentally and emotionally made him the absolute worst person to deal with a pandemic/economic collapse.
I was thinking about this a few weeks ago. Covid could have been the best thing to happen to Trump if he would have played it different. Instead of denying and downplaying Covid, he could have played it up as a disaster of which the U.S. has never seen, and then painted himself as the ONLY one that could save America from the China virus.
Like imagine back in Jan/Feb when he knew shyt was about to get real, he talked up the virus as an existential threat that was going to kill millions. Like tweeting everyday that this was going to be the worst plague in history, telling everyone to buy masks and stock up on food and water, declaring a national emergency to give himself more powers, stroking fears the same way he did for the stupid caravan that was coming to kill America, but this time around, it was actually some real shyt, just spun up and hyberbolized the way Trump is always fast and loose with the facts. And once everyone saw people actually dying worldwide, they would have been like Trump is right
and Trump would have had all of the capital needed to play on that fear and uncertainty, so that when he made the decision to shut down the country, he would have actually looked responsible for once.Then, with the economy in the toilet and Americans desperate and afraid, he could have been the one to push for stimulus, outflanking the Democrats on the left and putting them in a position to either ride with his initiative to "rescue America" or have them looking like the damn conservatives

Senate/House Republicans would be furious, but they would have followed Dear Leaders lead if he really played it up as if it was going to take a WW2-like response from Government to save America. Between the populism of sending everyone checks and the rally to the flag effect, Trumps favorability would have skyrocketed for the first time in his entire presidency, this a month after impeachment. And his same dumbass suporters refusing to wear masks, would have been doing the opposite, wearing maga masks and shyt.
Trump could have played himself up as some God hero saving America from China, and the media would have ate it up like "this is the moment he finally became the President." This approach would have been been xenophobic and fascist and tinged with fear mongering, racial anxiety and white nationalism, like everything he does is, but the missing ingredient that would have made it stick was economic populism, the very thing he ran on.
A lot of people voted for him in 2016 because they thought he was different than a career politician and would buck traditional norms. Well running to the left of Democrats on this issue would have been that, and it would have probably led to him cruising to re-election considering the polls continue to say his response to covid is why he has lost so much support among old people, suburban folks, and white women.
