:ehh:

I'm glad...I wanna see Punk have a shot and be somewhat competitive...

Me too.

This is the thing. People want to act like combat sports are treated like other sports and they just aren't. I was a fan of PRIDE, and I think the occasional freak show match is fine, as long as it's taken fr what it is. Punk will get his chance, and if he does well, good for him. If not, then he gave it a shot.

MMA fans sometimes can't accept that it's a business first. Ben Askren would be signed to the UFC right now if it were only about the sport aspect. The reality is that the UFC is in desperate need of stars. They've lost GSP, Chuck Liddell, Randy Couture, BJ Penn, Brock Lesnar, etc. Anderson Silva is on his way out, and Ronda Rousey probably has a few fights left.

Conor McGregor will help if he can back up his talk and get the strap. But ever since Jones/Cormier was put on hold after Jones' injury, the UFC has been in limbo, and if CM Punk can generate some interest, then it should happen. The UFC should build a really exciting card around Punk. Maybe put a good title fight on as the main event, and fill the rest of the card up with exciting young talent and/or top 5 fighters in their divisions that will put on a show.

I've seen a lot of TSC posters say this will be the first UFC they buy. The UFC should do their best to put on a great show to capitalize off that and gain some new fans. MMA purists will be annoyed at "more pro wrestling fans" infiltrating their sport, but that's not being realistic.

MMA purists just want to be the experts on the sport, and they don't want to admit that there's a large crossover between the audience that watches wrestling and the audience that watches MMA. They hate that, and the UFC signing Punk just proves it. If I'm taking a hard line stance, Punk does not deserve to be fighting in the UFC with a 0-0-0 record, but like Snoop said on The Wire, "Deserve ain't got nothin' to do with it."

- Steve Austin addressed the news of CM Punk signing to the UFC on the latest episode of the Steve Austin Show. Austin said that he had considered trying to be the go-between to get Punk to talk with Vince McMahon, similar to how Jim Ross was that person between Austin and Vince, but that it obviously won’t happen now.
“I think he [Punk] rolls with some [UFC] guys and it’s a very big passion of his,” Austin said. “I wish him all the luck in the world, and I know they’ll do a hell of a big buyrate…Match him up with someone his skill level, it’s hard to gauge what his skill level is though.”
He added, “I talked about maybe bridging the gap with CM Punk and Vince, and then he goes and does the deal with UFC. It would appear to me that they’re way further apart than I thought they were. I knew things were bad and I hadn’t talked to CM Punk, so it’s going to be interesting.”

The funniest thing about this shyt is that hardocre UFC fans are complaining about Punk waltzing right into the UFC and getting opportunities while other guys are having to work their way up.

Sounds awfully familiar doesn't it?

Compare the the biggest event of your sport to a monthly ppv where you're 3rd billing, 2nd at MOST, brehs.
