Directors didn't do a good enough job of detailing this but

"Tony" is shown being out of breath from lugging heavy grocery bags up multiple flights of stairs. He's confused when Cutty is talking that shyt to him...and never drops the bags.

Cutty sees the opening and rocks him to sleep.
