Every rap I ever made was about this town
I made 7 whole albums with no James Brown
And even though I love his music, I just can't stand
The way they used it all up and didn't pay the man
And after 2 platinum albums, you call me weak
Cause I don't sell records in the East
I'm not a tounge twisting rapper with a funny style
Don't dress hip hop and dance real wild
Shots fired

cocktales is the best album IMO
East/West/South collabs, them days
Dig that but i dont know if people were more up on get it in where you fit in than cocktalesYou may be right. Out of these listed, that or Shorty The Pimp might be the one I listen
to the most of Shorts'. But a "classic" isn't "what is the best" - it is "is everybody up on it".
I voted "yes" on the ones I see fit that.
Everybody points to Born To Mack as the genesis of talkin' about player/mack chit in the rap game.
That's undisputed.
I remember seeing (separate) interviews where 40 and Snoop Dogg were talkin' about "Dope Fiend Beat".
You shoulda seen how excited they got. And this is the album that made Nelly say he wanted to rap.
Short Dog's In The House is classic because that was the beginning of Bay rap fuccin' wit' L.A. rap, that was major.
"Ain't Nothin' But A Word To Me" is one of those cuts most folk knew, especially given the time it came out.
And, Snoop admitted this cover is where they got the idea to do the one for Doggystyle.
Get In Where You Fit In was a close one, but what tipped the scale in my opinion was it's the beginning
of the complete Dangerous Crew, and it has "Blowjob Betty" on it. Niccas had been waiting for that to appear on
a legit $hort album for YEARS before that.
Of course Gettin' It is a classic because it was the first rap "retirement album"...and it provided the closure retirement
should.
- He was kickin' knowledge about what most today call the Prison Industrial Complex ("Surviving The Game").
- He addressed why he got dissed by the Luniz and why he was livin' in Atlanta ("That's Why").
- He advocated for manifest destiny by setting up Nation Riders/Badwayz ("Bad Wayz"), which I think was important given that this was
in the height of the East/West Conflict.
- "Pimp Me" is the first real Too $hort song with an southern sound. It set the stage for him fuccin' with Lil' Jon and Pha.
- And come on - it had "Fucc My Car" (which he let UGK take the hook and make
a classic with themselves) and "Buy You Some". Niccas can't front on them songs. That's a classic, mayne.
The rest of the albums are still dope, and people might know the singles...but they know these albums for more
than the videos or the songs from the radio.
