I was born in 95, but I've definitely done my homework. Compared to the vast majority of folks my age, my knowledge of hip hop is extensive. Soul Food is one of the first album covers I remember seeing. The concepts of the songs on that album were amazing and unprecedented. Every song is essentially a slice of southern life, compared to the super-thug trap lyrics you hear from most trap artists nowadays. Listening to that album will show you the true realities of living down here. For instance, listen to Cee-Lo' s verse on this song. I don't think I've ever heard an artist be this accurate and earnest in his portrait of his environment. There's not too many artists that I can say portray the realities of life as well as they did on this album. Every track seems heartfelt and well thought out. Lyrically, all of them nikkas were spitting their asses off throughout the whole album. Their subject matter was extremely diverse too. Them nikkas were rapping about conspiracy theories, faith in God, empowering the black community and a lot more
Great post breh. Dapped. It's obvious this album means a lot to you and really connected with you. But, speaking objectively, where do you see it's place in the game compared to albums like Paid In Full, Criminal Minded, It Takes a Nation, Straight Outta Compton, Long Live The Kane, The Chronic, Low End Theory, Doggystyle, 36, Illmatic. Etc.
