Anyway, downplaying this or deflecting from the implications misses the bigger picture. Classifying fentanyl as a WMD paves the way for some dangerous consequences. You only have to look at how he's already expressed interest in military action against the cartels, and with this classification, it would give him a legal pretext to justify cross-border military operations in Mexico or even Canada. Calling it a WMD would also allow for the expansion of military and intelligence powers under the guise of national security.

People thinking this is just about combating fentanyl aren't paying attention. We see what this administration has been doing, so why would we want to grant them unchecked military power under the false pretense of addressing a public health crisis?
