Look how happy, carefree and innocent the movie was.

A remake would probably have Play as a Drill rapper with a heart of gold whilst Kid is a pre med student that cooks a higher grade of dope ala Walter White. The F-ery kicks in when they have to switch roles because no one knows who Play is as he always wears a Ghostface mask in his vids and Kid moves weight via the Darknet and thus is invisible, on and offline.

The shift in the world, the people in it and their mindsets between 92 and 22 is

when you think about it.

Not saying it was all sunshine and rainbows back then because it wasn't but there was still a shred of innocence available now and then compared to whatever timeline we're in now.
