CISPA is being debated in secret as we speak, you guys can pull up all kinds of links on it.. but im suprised no one here seems to give a fukk? :whoo:

EDIT: here is a link http://www.techdirt.com/articles/20...cret-so-why-will-cispa-debate-be-secret.shtml

For those who are uneducated on the topic it is the reintroduction of a bill that was shot down due to public outcry about internet user privacy and anonymity, that bill itself was a reincarnation of SOPA & PIPA which dealt with similar issues of regulating the internet.

Here is a quick FAQ: https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2013/...mmittee-heres-why-new-version-still-threatens

and the text to the bill itself for those who would like to do further reading: CISPA 2.0 (HR 624) - 2013 Bill Text

I'm sure a lot of folks care...but if its as you said, being done surreptitiously then most folks won't be aware...... I feel the same way about of lot of news stories that are only available on alternative news... .......and folks don't get upset until its already law or regulation has been approved ... :upsetfavre:

This is my only gripe with mainstream media sources that are so cherished, not one word on what is really going on? this is outrageous, i would think that people who are avid users of social platforms on the internet (such as all of us on the coli) would be ready to :bustback: at the very mention of this bill. i guess not :snoop:

MSM has been paid off a long time ago. Yellow Journalism is what is placed on the news. Of Course MSM doesn't care about the American people if they can save their own skin. You really shouldn't be shocked.

So Lets Hash it Out:

None of the proposed amendments deal with privacy advocates' top concern with the bill. They fear it would allow companies to share cyberthreat data directly with the National Security Agency, without a civilian agency like the Homeland Security Department handling the information first. They note that civilian agencies are subject to more congressional oversight, unlike the secretive spy agency.

It's amazing that citizens are so willing to give up their information to private companies and inept Government bureaucracies such as the DHS, yet feel threatened by it being in the hands of the NSA, which consists of far more capable and intelligent miners, analysts, and gatherers who are actually in a position to connect dots and understand how to protect a global infrastructure.

I feel like this isn't an issue with Unit 8200 (Israel's Cyber Security unit which is much more secretive than the NSA), GCHQ (Britain), or PLA 61398 (China). Corporations and contractors are springing up all over the place in order to capitalize off of cyber-security threats and we're content to allow them access to our data but not the Government?

For all of the wealth and infrastructure, the citizens of this country employ quite a bit of backward ass logic.

Are companies already legally allowed to share personal information disregarding anonymity, with the Homeland Security Department ?

Do you really trust large corporations with your data? :usure:

No, and this is exactly why i oppose CISPA. The only websites that have any of my private information would be websites that are used by the vast majority of others such as facebook, twitter etc. but currently they are not able to do much with this information other then use it for research or advertisement purposes and that also depends on the privacy policy for each individual platform.

Define private information.

what ever information that is exchanged with a particular website in turn for their services or for access, and to the degree which this information lifts the veil of anonymity that the internet allows.
