Rankings
Units: PS5 > XBS > NSW
Revenue: PS5 > XBS >

Hardware

Video game hardware spending dropped 23% in October when compared to a year ago. Switch dollar sales fell 38% year-on-year during October, while PS5 declined by 20% and Xbox Series showed an 18% decrease.

PlayStation 5 was once again the best-selling hardware platform in both unit and dollar sales for the month, with Xbox Series ranking 2nd across both measures.

604k units of new video game hardware sold in October 2024 across Arcade, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Plug-N-Play, and Xbox Series platforms. This is down from the 759k units sold a year ago.

Software

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 was October’s best-selling video game, debuting as the #3 best-selling game of 2024 YTD. Over each title's first two weeks in market, full game dollar sales of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 were 23% higher than Call of Duty: Modern Warfare III a year ago. PlayStation platforms accounted for 82% of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 total console full game dollar sales volume during the October tracking period.

After just one month in market, Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero became the best-selling Dragon Ball game in U.S. lifetime dollar sales and ranked 3rd among all Bandai Namco Entertainment published titles in history, trailing only Elden Ring and Dark Souls III.

Silent Hill 2 (2024) debuted as the #2 best-selling Silent Hill game in lifetime dollar sales, trailing only the original Silent Hill 2. It ranked 3rd among all video games in October full game dollar sales and at #28 for the 2024 year-to-date period.

Accessories

Consumer spending on Accessories increased 15% in October when compared to a year ago, to $187 million. The PlayStation Portal was October’s best-selling accessory in dollar sales.

PlayStation platforms accounted for 82% of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 total console full game dollar sales volume during the October tracking period.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 to Game Pass did a few things in the US... it resulted in a subscription spending boost, shifted share of full game sales to PlayStation, did not appear to result in massive cannibalization of sales, and did not appear to provide a significant boost to Xbox Series hardware.

I literally posted that in the OP :skip:

Bro do you just make stuff up

:mjlol:

We knew that it would still be on PlayStation. The issue going forward would be all the exclusive dlc, perks and game pass. Sony knows that if Microsoft puts call of duty on gamepass it’s going to cause a dip in there base. They can’t compete with buying a game at full price vs a monthly reasonably priced service of access to the game.

From a business standpoint Sony will suffer which is why they are panicking.

You dumbasses from a business standpoint Sony will no longer benefit from the marketing rights which bought them 100 of millions easily. Sony afraid that COD on a subscription model will (most definitely will) stop their profits. They have advertisement agreements for the next three games but the money grabbing packs exclusive shyt which bought Sony money etc... is over.

COD will def be on there it'll be a huge reason people move over, and for those with hate in there hearts they can pay retail :mjlol:

Oh :mjlol:

Oh :mjlol:

I stand corrected. When I said this even Sony had uncertainty. But shyt don’t matter they got the higher base then Microsoft so it makes sense.
:yeshrug:

Either way Microsoft is making money and further justifies them putting more of there games on PlayStation.

What was the purpose of this acquisition?

X-Box sales still trash and it will take over a decade for MS to see any profit on the cost of acquisition…

TYRONE GA!
Remember when it was argued that people would leave playstation to play call of duty on gamepass? :dead:

Since it's measuring physical/digital only, of course the vast majority are on Playstation. Before it was a 50% playstation, 25% Xbox and 25% PC split. With Gamepass (Ultimate), of course the Xbox and PC sales would drastically decrease. So that leaves the retail and digital sales being primarily Playstation.

if they're saying they sold more copies of the game with less retail sales on PC and Xbox due to Gamepass, that's crazy. Win/Win for MS and Sony.

Yeah, thats the primary goal of any 3rd party publisher.

Whats funny is the insinuation that they could have ever taken COD off playstation. This realization is what also lead to the “no red lines” strategy they adopted. Playstation is too big of a platform for them to ignore with all their releases at this point.

They will have to sell 1 billion units of COD and Trashfield on PS5 to make this shyt turn a profit

Like, nikka….what the fukk were y’all thinking??? In what world do these numbers make sense???
:why:

I bet if they could turn back time they (phil in particular) wouldn’t have went this route. Phil Spencer still has that type of console first mentality in him, he loves xbox he hates the idea of halo being on playstation
