Who told johnny cage to go fight scorpion in an orchid and how did katana have telepathy to pass thoughts to luke while he fought sub zero? Why didnt sub zero just freeze look like he did the first nikka he fought at the dinner? The entire existence of reptile was fukking fluke and goofy

That's norm convuluted plot stuff tho lol. That's issues with character but the plot is straightforward. It's the story you have an issue with and that's fine.
And outside of agreeing with you on Sonya's pants, most of that stuff is the movie embracing the game. If you understand they're in a fighting tournament then you know there's not going to be a list up where they can go check the bulletin board every morning to know who they're fighting and when and where. You accept the reality that the movie is giving you

Breh...as an adult, mortal kombat as a franchise is stupid tho. The game is a parody game and it's silly and ridiculous. Rather than play it completely straight, the first movie embraces those silly aspects, like fighting arenas and a friendship by johnny cage and reptile and sorcerey and elemental gods, but takes the material seriously. No one is winking and they make it easy to follow story wise
