Yes they did...there were protest etc... to get certain albums off the market (how old are you?).
It was more of an issue in the 70's and 80's when Rock was the music of white youth.

the difference between a white kid listening to rap, and a black kid listening to rap is that most of these white kids listen to this shyt as a goof. They dont take these gangsta dudes serious because for one...the music should be taken as a joke (thats how I take it)...and 2. they arent living amongst that shyt.
When you have music made by people that act and look like you...it normalizes the behavior.
Not only do you see disfunction all around you...you also see people who are rich and famous act the same way.

Yes...its the parents job to police what their kids do...but unfortunately a lot of the parents in the hood are a joke.

I can't really put hands on them because they truly don't know. I know they don't pick that language up from movies or fresh prince reruns. They don't teach slavery and our past in their schools, and it's kind of unfair to expect them to just blindly ask if we were slaves and what white people used to call us. So I just calmly and tell them don't say that shyt and they say they hear it from 50 cent or whatever.

So yes hip hop actually has a huge cultural impact globally, just my opinion at the end of the day.

I've yet to see a person claim rap is the root cause of all these problems, it is however contributing and if you can't see that it's you who are dense.

It isn't about what "good" can come from rap, rap is the voice of the hood. Good or bad, it is what it is. People aren't going to listen to what they don't feel and make a connection with.

Rap didn't make grown ass men have kids and abandon them

Rap didn't create single mothers

Rap didn't break down our family structure in lower income black areas

Rap didn't cause the drug problem in the hoods

Rap didn't put these school systems that did nothing but push kids ahead without educating them, only for these kids to hit a wall later and drop out

Rap didn't put a massive amount of lower / no income people in a relatively small area with no jobs

Rap didn't stop people from properly raising their kids

Rap doesn't white cops from outside areas policing people they hate and don't consider human

Rap doesn't have a Jim Crow era justice / post conviction system in place, in 2015

On and on...

Now show me some proof from legit sources of what rap does do and how it factors into crime and violence in the hood
