Off topic but it’s pointless to compare the China middle class to other countries because the the only reason it’s beginning to thrive and it works in their country is because of the one kid rule
That’s bullshyt. That policy is going to be their undoing.

lol, I remember when the idea was introducing American products into the Chinese markets would also help introduce American values like democracy, freedom, independence, etc.
Interesting now to see which way ideas actually have spread. :francis:

The problem with this is it shows a lack of understanding when it comes to Chinese culture in general.
Their society is based on collectivist and confucian values. In most cases the government is seen as
a custodian for the entire country not an entity to be protested against.

The only thing this does is further antagonize relations and shore up nationalist sentiment within
China. Chinese aren't going to critique their own government or be disgruntled because amero-cacs
are supporting HK .

Do you hear yourself ?
You think Chinese love NBA more than their own country ?

:laff::laff::laff:
Your nonsense is a logic fail. By your reasoning there wouldn't even be protests in the first place. If your claims were true there'd be no need for the Chinese authorities to have more political prisoners than any nation on Earth and be constantly terrified of separatist movements tearing their country apart.

People who "love their country" obviously aren't on anyone's radar here.

And I made zero claims about how effective some tweet gonna be. Zero. But you know who is acting shook and making a huge deal about it? THE CHINESE GOVERNMENT.

on sunday, john oliver just did a piece on just that.

they've had the "2 child rule" since 2015, but all that shows is that they didn't learn the lessons of the 1 child rule.

china has a 4-2-1 problem. 1 child will be financially responsible for 2 parents and 4 grandparents in their old age.

This is a pretty funny but this may actually be the best way to frame it

You cant argue or reason with a cult member(stan)
the worst is when they emigrate to a western country like America or Canada but still continue to blindly support the Communist government their entire lives. I seen that shyt happening in Canada real recently.

True but Hong is the financial back bone of China.. China says Hong can operate on their own without interference.. If I’m China you use Hong Kong as a cover to promote businesses, free speech and all that other shyt while continuing their status quo in the mainland.. I mean it’s business right?
You are a totalitarian regime. You don’t give the people any hope of gaining freedom. One brush fire can lead to a massive fire.

What do you mean "they don't care"? They don't care about a disgruntled population and potential revolution? That's almost certainly their #1 concern. There are only two reasons they've let the NBA have such a big presence in China at all - to fill their pockets and to pacify the population. And that second reason might actually be bigger than the first.

Kicking a sports league out of the country doesn't make China look strong. It makes them look petty. And you're right, they're frightened to back down but they're also frightened that the NBA will leave. Both options are L's for them. From the beginning they really thought the NBA would back down and punish/condemn Morey, and it came damn close to happening, but once Silver grew a spine the Chinese were shook.

I think some of y'all overestimate how much power China has. Countries who are gripping really, really tightly to control their entire population tend to do so because they're terrified that if they let up they'll lose everything. China's greatest fear is a disgruntled population loses faith in the government to maintain their standard of living and fuels separatist movements that buzz around almost every border province in the country. Take away the NBA and you're one step closer to disgruntled. shyt like this has happened in history with governments even more brutal than the Chinese.
China doesn't care about disgruntled people, yes. This is a dictatorship that censors anything that they want whenever they want and reasons be damned. They already put themselves above the people.

You're overestimating NBA's impact too. Yes, there are going to be pissed off people. China will look weak in eyes of its own citizens who arent disgruntled yet or maybe they are but scared shytless to do anything, it they continue to do business with someone who supported the opposition.

Remember, China doesn't have the concept of your own opinion. The only opinion us the party opinion.

Does it look petty? Of course, did banning Pooh bear or South Park look petty? Of course. Chinese government isn't afraid to look petty. They're afraid to look weak. If they look weak, those people who are disgru twld but scared can revolt. If they look strong, people fear them and machiavellian rule continues.

i don't usually support that line of thinking when it comes to immigrants coming to america for opportunity from poor countries. but like you said these chinese people who are in the west and riding for the communist regime are full of shyt. the only difference between china's urban areas and the west is the communist govt. so if you love the communist govt, live there for fukk sake. you'll get the same standard of living but be under the thumb of a govt you love. "bu bu but i need property in vancouver or new york to hedge against the communist govt coming and taking my shyt." ahhh so isn't that a clear indicator of a huge problem with your country's system?

I never said there wouldn't be protests but if you think Chinese citizenry will pick the NBA over their own government.
Then please elaborate on this point...

United States was terrified of Southern secession and it actually happened and you saw the response. Much recently
Catalonia tried to secede from Spain and the government went in on them. That's was fine and dandy ...isn't it ?

Chinas on a path toward long term development - there will be growing pains along the way much like the ones
before during and after western industrialization.

People who "love their country" obviously aren't on anyone's radar here.

The tweet was withdrawn and Adam Silver has flown to Shanghai. Nobody is shook.

Chinese government has banned youtube, facebook and twitter for more than a decade, instagram and google and pornhub/xvideos for 5 years, and banned reddit, twitch and wikipedia earlier this year

but not having NBA supposed to have them shook ? :dahell:
