The Monkey King has always been a highly popular fictional character in China. Just like Jesus in America 
Seriously though, you could create any product intended only for China and you would make stupid dough if you went nationwide. One of the barriers stopping China from stomping on the neck of Pixar is the fact that their characters will be designed to speak Chinese, meaning dubs won't look in sync with the mouth movements. And I'll be damned if China's biggest digital effects companies/artist firms start producing English-only animated films anytime soon.
