China ban "flaunting wealth" and "making fun of poor people" on social media. Edit: Add online thottery and mukbang to the ban.

lol they don't give a fukk about no ethics it's all optics. Everything is just behind a thin veil for the sake of their image. same country where it's normal to serve each other tainted or fake food products with a smile but lord forbid some girl take a sexy pic. that morality is very surface level and performative.
Optic for who? LOL. This is absurd.

Your analysis is superficial, to say the least. In the same country, you can have different people acting with a different mindset. Anyone who looks at China knows that there is a revival of (neo)confucianism.

there is a nostalgia for it from people that grew up in it but the reality is that these people have gotten a taste of freedom and shyt won't go the way that the old set leaders want. mainland china is having more social upheaval than they are used to given covid and the disillusionment people have with how society functions already. you make it sound like the people are on board rather than being instructed and even in the time that they look back to and long for China still had the same vices as any other society. The optics are for everyone. China's government is very controlling of how their society is depicted and concerned with that more than actually ending anything because it still goes down and is less of an issue when it is not openly present. they have prostitution built into their culture more than any other place. They just won't have a strip like bangkok advertising it. that don't make them moral. that's just good PR.

the bans on expressing any sort of sexual imagery will continue to have unintended consequences. I've read about chinese men liking female korean pop and film/tv stars. they also like japanese porn models too. so untold millions or hundreds of millions of young adults or teens are watching and being molded by adult material not consisting of their race or ethnic group.

these policies will backfire.

adult material/ pornography is a form of soft power and it absolutely plays a role in the sexual appeal of white people worldwide and even black people.

edit:

hip hop/rap has been one of the world biggest genres for the last 30 years and look how it has impacted the whats considered sexually attractive, molded by black mens standards found in lyrics, music videos, ads, and their choice of girlsfriends/wives.

it basically reshaped a lot of non-black peoples views on whats also attractive.

representation matters in all media.

You reasoning does not make sense at all. PR? PR for who? This is bad PR.

You seem unable to understand that there are factions within the chinese power structure who really are pursuing an ideological goal. Stopping mukbang has nothing to do with optic (it's bad optic) and control(it does not serve that). Under Hu Jintao, liberal forces were stronger, that's why you had stuff like gay pride in Shangai. So this is also an ideological fight with the chinese power structure and the CCP.

You keep talking about prostitution. Don't see how the existence of prostitution goes against what I'm saying. Did I China was the most virtuous country in the world?

The 'optic' angle you're using is lazy.
