Look i grew up in the hood, then gravitated to the college scene meeting and learning how white people do things, but at the same time i realize what they was doing didn't fit me, so did i gravitate back to the hood and the down hopes niqqas have? nope.. decided to take that u-turn down that one-way street ( DOING SH!T MY WAY ) and never look back..

u have to realize the past is the past and u can't live that second childhood.. what if the cops pull up on u and your boyz and find someone wit drugs on them..what u going to do now. lose your job and freedom.

u need to make that

I'm not scared to look. I'm not a Clarence type nikka. I grew up in a good home. Both parents are there. Both paid for me to go to college. I had everything. But the streets called me. Those are the real soldiers. But I'm just :what: at the shyt they say. I made this thread cuz I was at a wedding party for one of my friends I grew up wit, and the crowd was ghetto as fukk. I felt out of place.

Easier said than done.

You sound like a bytch. How you gonna say they ya people but you scared to express yaself to them? Besides that all street nikkas ain't uncouth, some so called well breed people are just as dumb.

Because I went to jail wit nikkas. Went through indictments wit nikkas. I ain't a bytch at all. I just have more education than most if the nikkas I hang with, and it makes it difficult for me to relate to what they say and agree with how they act. I might be an upper class nikka but I don't fukk with upper class nikkas. The streets is my family. Unfortunately, most nikkas in the streets aren't educated or cultured.

I said to "move on" bc I was in a similar situation as the OP.

Stable home. Nurturing environment (to a degree; another story).

Was surrounded by the foolish/ ignorance of my hood friends.

Enjoyed it, damn near reveled in it.

Like yourself, over time as I grew and remained around them, I had the eternal :snoop: :what: :why: faces.

I made the decision to remove myself from what I perceived as my potential downfall, mature and I am a better person as a result.

Crazy thing is they knew I was "different" and respected my decision to "grow up."

Speaking from experience, breh.

Funny thing is I did this after I realized there was a generation after me.

Have since been involved with many non-profits, charitable organizations focused on urban youths.

Good luck.

This is inspiring. Thank you for understanding.

This sounds like the situation my little cousin is in. He comes from a good home and he is in college right now. But all his boys pretty much are on the block where they don't work and have no hopes and dreams. Infact i'll venture and say that most of them cats he went to school with will be on the block when he finishes college and beyond. But the little nikka still comes home and goes right to the streets to hang with his lil crew. Then he'll tell me that while he is college and has those friends, he wants to remain loyal to the homey's and doesn't wanna seem like he is changing on them. I told him that he's a young man now working toward his future, he doesn't need to be hanging around negativity anyway. I let him know that aint nothing wrong with coming back and acknowledging your friends from school, but you also have to let them no that you have moved on in life too and are trying to better yourself.

Already been to prison. Trust me, I REALLY was in these streets. But I got a degree in the process, and I'm about to get a post-grad degree in a few months. I dont share that with my street peoples. they can't relate.

It's hard to separate yourself from dudes who welcomed you into the streets and held you down when you couldn't connect with the c00ns and white boys. No homo, but I love the nikkas I grew up with. I just no longer relate to much of what they talk about. So I feel fake when I laugh at their jokes and go along with the shyt they do. It's funny because sometimes, I get the feeling that they know I feel like I no longer relate to them. I wonder if they think I'm being fake.

I just choose to not even hang out no more. I moved away from my town for college and went back but my nikkas were doing the same shyt as when I was here. Only difference is I never pretended to be a street nikka like you. :pachaha:
But seriously I was always the comical fat nikka in my hood so I never pretended to be about that life. When I moved away they understood its because I really want to do something with my life and that's why they respect me for not hanging out like I used to. I feel like if your smart enough(and have a good enough lifestyle to avoid it like you said) then why gravitate to it?
