Lol this is exactly why I’ve been suspicious ever since Abiy got into office.
As to who might be behind this it’s a great question. However stopping or delaying/sabotaging the Dam project would be stupid on too many front. It’s fully funded by the government and people and the diaspora has invested millions in bonds. Not to mention, the industry that can be created by a completed Dam is too much to pass up given the rampant unemployment and the plans of becoming a middle income nation.
In all, I feel like Egypt and their Arab partners might have something to do with this. They are constantly meddling in Horn affairs and would rather see a weak, subservient Ethiopia quarreling with its neighbors than an Ethiopia that can actually have a say in the geopolitics of its own neighborhood. I’ll wait for more info tho, RIP to the man...he did a great thing for our people.
Days after the new PM said the project will likely be delayed a decade, and those opposed to him are convinced he is sabotaging it. This will inspire wild theories and lots of acrimony.
