not a gang expert but i do live in chicago and honestly i think most of it is due to the fact that 1) there is almost no structure as far as the gangs and 2) these dudes are so young and just more impulsive

Yes. since the fed charges came down there's many factions and cliques within factions. Projects torn down means clashes between nikkas that used to live in the 'jects with the street cats since they're now living together.
