CHARLOTTE, NC (WBTV) -
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools may look at a new option in its effort to help African-American males succeed in the education system.

District superintendent Dr. Heath Morrison created 22 task forces to tackle a variety of issues the school district had to deal with.

One of those task force was tasked with ongoing issues dealing with African-American males in CMS.

The task force made several recommendations, including beginning a planning phase to open a K-12 African-American male school during the 2015-2016 school year. One black male student thinks that would be a great idea.

"The African American male wouldn't have to argue over females," Rising 9th grader George Whitley said. "And we can just get along and relate to each other."

Whitley also believes a new school with one gender and one race would be safer.

"We wouldn't have to worry about insults and racism." Whitley said.

Task Force Members believe black male students need to have a chance to succeed in the school system. They claim this new school would build leadership, business and academic skills for black male students.

Taxpayers say this school could teach black male students a good lesson.

"Growing up at a certain point," Taxpayer Vanessa Dixon said. "You have to stick together and know what it means to help each other."

CMS leaders are already saying this concept maybe against the law.

"If we are going to have an all black school - all male school," CMS school board chairperson Mary McCray said. "Then we must create an all female school because of Title nine."

McCray says the concept is interesting but would rather the idea be inclusive than exclusive.

"I can make the case for all males," McCray said. "Because of the needs male students have versus what female students may have."

Some people think this concept is racist and will return to segregation. No word yet what CMS will do.

Other recommendations addressing black male students include revising the school district's discipline processes and recruiting a diverse teaching force for CMS schools.

I'm biased in this but what do you guys think? I work with an all black dude college program and that shyt works very well. Different kind of learning that happens when you have a non-mixed student body. We don't bar anybody from enrolling but we tell everybody at the beginning of the semester, this is a program designed for black males and subject matter is adjusted accordingly.

On the other hand, if some white folks did something like this, I'd be the first to say it was some bullshyt.

Depending on how it's run, I'd send my kid.

Going to an all black school is not gonna prepare your kid for the real world. Better to get him used to racism early in life :manny:

That's another problem I'd have with the program. Life outside of the classroom isn't a vacuum and you have to learn how to deal with people who come from different backgrounds. And you sure have to learn how to deal with folks who aren't gonna show you any love

I don't think they're worried about "dealing" with other cultures.

They planners have realized that having the basic tools to contend competitively are more important right now. I figure they are saying, "Why dilute the population we need to focus on? Whats the purpose of being comfortable around whites if we can't help you stand on your own two while you're amongst them?"

Personally, I'm kind of eager to see how this dynamic changes the culture of education amongst the population. I'm probably more eager to see how this affects girls than guys actually.

If whites tried this they'd be called racist :russ:

I'm officially done with Higher Learning. The understanding of life and social issues is so warped that I can't deal with it. It's simply too far removed from real life.

I don't care that you said this - because it's you.....

But it would be different if your mindset was strictly that of a racist troll.... but white n black and 'other' posters think the way you do. Half the supposedly black posters aren't pro black and actually make me think their c00ns when (from what i know) c00ns are not this prevalent in real life. .... and overall it's just gross.

oh yeah and..... do you believe there are not all white boys schools? No one is complaining. If a program is developed that empowers black male children then everyone should be for it.

My only regret about how my parents raised me is that they tried to shelter me too much. The hood teaches you how to spot a jux, a hustler, a buster, a hoe, etc. A lot of life lessons you learn in the community. Especially me because I travel so much and do my own thing, I could have avoided a lot of trouble by simply getting those lessons in my youth as opposed to 20+. I'm not saying to let your kids join a gang, but can't shelter them either, ESPECIALLY if they're black, we got it harder than most, gotta toughen up your kids early :obama:

What kind of affects would you be expecting?

Really wish more Pro Black charters would open up.

I can't speak for everywhere, but our dealings with schools around here have not been very open to pro black influence.
I work for a volunteer tutoring organization and 'Black' is right in our title. Every year we get asked to change our name.
No one has any problems with Jewish schools. We have a heavy Hmong presence in my town, they have their own schools and such, no problem.
Anything black? Butts start to clench up and they start talking about segregation and asking why we'd want to separate ourselves.

Well its always been my biased and ignorant opinion that the reason some women don't do good in school is solely because of the influence of males.

I've always felt they are more disciplined because of they way they're forced to be raised. Hence why when you see a wild and overly energetic chick, you're automatically on some "she's a chicken head" shyt.

Because most folks raise their daughters to be conservative and reserved, their personality tends to fit the typical school schedule. Whereas I feel like boys are bred to bounce off the fukkn walls from the time they wake.

Are you still gonna have fights? yes.
Will there still be that catty group of girls? yes.
Will there still be the outside influence of their living environments? yes.

I just feel like that type of environment "allows" for a better "attempt" to teach and nurture. Thus allowing you to focus on the girls who REEEEALLY ain't about bettering their lives. :yeshrug:

You claimed to be not racist but it's obvious you are. Sorry to see you go :to:
