Charlize Theron sat down with “Access” this week to discuss a variety of topics, and at one point she talked about her children, which sparked a big reaction.

“I don’t think it’s easy for girls, it just isn’t,” she told Natalie Morales about women making their way through life and work. “I look at my two beautiful girls, and I think I have the worry that every other mother has out there. I don’t think it’s any different. I want them to be safe, and I want them to live their full potential.”

The reason why the actress’ words caused such a stir is because she actually has one girl and a boy, not two girls as she stated in the interview.

For quite some time now, there’s been talk that Theron is raising her adopted son Jackson as a girl, and there’s been other reports that stated the child is transitioning into a female. This was after Jackson was seen in photos wearing items like dresses, leggings and long braids.

“Two girls? Doesn’t she have a son?” one person asked in the comments.

“Dressing your adopted son up like a girl doesn’t make him a girl,” another person wrote.

“Regardless of how long she has dressed up her son as a boy or a girl, you don‘t call your son a girl like that publicly, unless you have acknowledged his sexuality as a girl,” a third person commented.

Others, meanwhile, thought the actress referring to Jackson as a girl on national television was progressive and the right thing to do. Theron adopted the child from her home country of South Africa.

“Man, I have to point out when she referred to her kids as ‘My two beautiful girls,’ that was honestly so nice to hear and know she supports Jax the way she needs to be supported, even more in this day and age where the trans community is finally finding their voices.”
