It's not about being right. You can reach the right conclusions just by assuming the worst of people just because people are likely to doing the wrong thing. But taking short cuts in your logic doesn't convince anyone who wasn't already prone to stick with your point of view. If anything, it helps them, and it makes you part of the hyperbole and joke of the media that we have.
