He's not far off...
And if you're from the south you know we have.......a preference!
Our prejudice is right up there with the prejudice NY had in the 90s.
Oh course a couple of Kendrick songs are so huge that everyone is playing them. But in general...CW not wrong for the average southern person.
I heard from a promoter that there were several cities in Florida where Kendrick canceled shows because he couldn't sell the tickets. Unless he brought someone like kodak too. We are very closed minded down here to musical variety. If its a smash hit...we'll listen to it...but it's not being played in hood clubs and house parties.
Hard to articulate it...
“Several cities in Florida" Either that promoter is capping, or he must've been talking about when Kendrick was in his Section 80 days. There aren't several cities in this state worth touring.
Miami, Orlando, either Jax/Tampa and that's it.
Florida is way too transient of a state for any MAJOR pop rapper(Kendrick or Drake) to cancel shows for not having enough fans. It's not like Kendrick is some small rapper who has to rely on playing Vegas Caberet. Hella Florida residents aren't even from here, for the local flavor to dictate MAJOR artists tours. Outside of Kodak, even none of the local artist have pull and selling out like that. Again, outside of the hood circuit. And that circuit doesn't dictate MAJOR artists who roll into town. If Charleston mean "LOCAL Southern residents dont listen to Kendrick" then that logic would have to extend to damn near every popular non-southern rapper. As each Southern market is gonna be hyper regional.
