"In Shelby, the FBI handled Roof’s initial questioning, Ledford said. Shelby police’s lone conversation with the mass-murder suspect was about food. Earlier in the day, Roof had bought water and chips at a south Charlotte gas station. Now he was hungry. Police bought him food from a nearby Burger King, Ledford said.
“He was very quiet, very calm. He didn’t talk,” Ledford said. “He sat down here very quietly. He was not problematic.”

They wanted to get info from him. The cost of the hamburger was cheap; it's an easy way to smooth out the interview/interrogation process. If he was hungry, then he would be distracted from answering questions. It's not unusual for detectives to play "good cop" with suspects they arrest to get info. Cigarette, coffee, water, food.

Actually quite a common tactic to get them talking. Especially on murder cases where an admission will seal the deal.
Detectives buy lunch before the interview and ask what the suspect wants too. Then they eat with them, small talk, try and gain their friendship/trust and then start the real questions.
It's normal.

But for real, he should get the death penalty.
Forget the fact that the state is out of death penalty drugs, just shoot his azz with a firing squad.

Do you know anything about police work or how the criminal justice system works?
,my father is a former cop and he was pissed off by this and didn't believe it at first.

This is not confession tactic. You Dont carry around an arrested suspect of murder to food places. Stuff like y'all are referring to takes place after the person has been officially booked and an interrogation is taking place.

This is something like if I got arrested and asked to stop by Wendy's on the way to jail. The kid said he was hungry and the cops obliged. Unacceptable.

I dont care if its Burger king or a 5 star restaurant.

Go steal a $.95 loaf of bread and ask a cop if you can eat it and see what happens.

If you think that buying this racist mass murderer BK was official police procedure then you're a an idiot who doesn't know anything about police work or the criminal justice system. I'm aware that cops do shyt to coax information and confessions but my point was that it was unnecessary here because this idiot knew that he would caught and had every intention on confessing. He supposedly let someone live just to tell what happened. He posted a manifesto explaining why he did the shyt. He didn't need coaxing. So save that dumb shyt that you're talking.

I'm not gonna go into an outrage over this one.

it was probably like first 48 where they will cop the suspect a value meal from mickey d's in order to secure that confession in writing.

it's chess, not checkers :win:

Cmon y'all, this ain't the movies.

These aren't detectives. These aren't even the cops who will be doing the interrogation. They turned him over to the FBI. These are cops 4 hours away who just happened to comes across a mass murderer.

All they should have done is arrest him, cuff him, mash him in the squad car and get him to whatever police jurisdiction he is supposed to go to ASAP. Not stopping for burgers BC "he's hungry".

They wouldn't let Eric Garner breathe but y'all think this is acceptable? Again this has nothing to do with the process y'all are referring to.

Forget a flag, this is something to be outraged over BC this will occour whether the flag exists or not

They weren't police detectives, but they were agents. Same thing, different name.

It doesn't really matter. The main officer himself said he(Roof) said he was hungry so they took him to eat. No interrogation took place at that time, not was it supposed to.

Again this guy killed 9 ppl in cold blood. Got no violent arrest, a bulletproof vest and a free meal

I guess this dude is in solitary confinement for his own safety. He's way too high profile to be put into general population. Don't even know if he would survive a week in there.

If they empathized with him because hes white, why didnt they shoot him on sight..now he'll be on death row agonizing for years. they could have done him and us all a favor by killing him on the spot but put racial loyalty above all forms of reasoning..
