From my understanding C Tha God and Schulz became cool because they both were on an MTV show called Guy Code, they started doing Brilliant Idiots from there. C Tha God was way more popping than Schulz at the time because of Breakfast Club, but as @O.Red pointed out, Schulz only became more popular because he started doing his own podcast aside from Brilliant Idiots.
