True butt even before that Steve Austin was a clean cut good guy. The stone cold Moniker made him darker, and he later became the rebel everyone rooted for

Sephiroth was a good guy and the hero everyone looked up to until he did the research and found out he was the product of an experiment. He then went and lost his mind and exposed himself to even more to mako and a bunch of other crap and became even more powerful. Jenova corrupted him

After sephiroth lost his mind he caught the beats from Zack and cloud. He only got stronger when he transformed for the final boss fight (plot). Jenova didn't corrupt him, he found out the truth about himself and jenova. He controlled jenova.
