I agree that we're in a transitional period but transitioning into what exactly? Who knows what the future holds? No one. Backlund, a legend, or the WWF didn't know Hulkamania would do what it did. Bret/Austin at WM13, the Montreal Screwjob, and Shawn/Austin at WM14 were important events but no one saw the Attitude Era coming. It's hard to predict wrestling trends.

This is true. Cena came out of nowhere, with his Thuganomics gimmick. shyt was gold. From the current crop, it's gonna take something really, really special to ignite something new. Burial of the midcard, and uncertainty of Punk/Bryan longevity with Cena in the MITB doesn't paint a clear picture of the future.

I'm perplexed, tho. I can't pick anyone to be as influential as Hogan, Austin, Rock, Cena to come from anyone on the the roster. Whoever it is, hasn't found their thing yet.

Basically. Cena's run alone was unpredictable. I mean, Aries just won the damn title two days ago and Punk/Bryan, while talented, are inconsistent draws. Cena's run is at its relative end. If I had to draw parallels then:

Cena=Hogan 92-94 Hulkamania was winding down and Hogan was about to jump ship
Punk/Bryan=Bret/Shawn 94-96 Great matches and both were trying to hold it down but not many people were watching at this point
Today it's an uphill battle for WWE but WWF 93-96 was a worse period IMO and look at how they turned out. These things aren't easy to read.

things come and go, wrestling still being on TV in 2012 is amazing, people expecting a bounce like the Attitude era are going to be :to:

I honestly feel the ratings are just going to go lower and lower till USA give WWE the boot and TNA goes under, then WWE will be just one show a week on the Outdoor channel or some shyt like that. Then by 2020 pro wrestling will :rip: on television

Wrestling's still one of the highest rated shows on TV for each network.

Anything can happen but I don't see it going anywhere.

Someone back in the old TSC made this comparison as well. I don't remember specifics though and I'm certainly not gonna go look for it.
