This. It ain't just running away from luxury taxes. There's a number they both saw internally that's making them dip.

It's rare as hell for any team in any sort to go on the market, but four in the past handful of years is nuts.

These ppl are investors. At some point they take their profits. You're talking 1000% in some cases.

Literally same idea as Cuban. And being the owner operator of the arena also matters as far as revenues. And having someone with deeper pockets being able to help make it happen. Best to start planning ahead long term like the Sixers and Clippers did.

So there's a rumor that the group that owns Encore Boston wants to buy the C's and build a new arena near the casino. They would want to get away from the Garden so they don't have to pay the Bruins to lease out the place.

A lot of fans do not want the Red Sox group to buy the Celtics. I'm not from Boston and stopped watching baseball in the late 90's, but i'm guessing they are cheapskates.

When the Suns were for sale, a few names popped up as potential buyers. Jeff Bezos who's worth 210 billion, but is rumored to want to be the owner of the expansion team if Seattle get's the bid. There were rumors of him possibly buying the Commanders, but he has his eyes on the Seahwks. Larry Ellison is a guy worth 173 billion who has been wanting to buy an NBA team for years. He wanted to buy the Warriors years ago before they were sold to their current owners. Laurene Jobs who is is Steve Jobs' widow is worth 14.5 billion. She currently owns a percentage of the Wizards. There was rumors of her wanting to sell her share in the Wizards and buy the Suns when they were for sale. Maybe she'd want to buy the Celtics. Bob Iger former ceo of Disney was also a name mentioned. He's worth 690 million. No thanks, don't want him. Then there's these groups from the middle east who have been pumping insane amounts of money in their soccer clubs in europe. I doubt the NBA would want to do business with them especially the Saudis.

At the end of the day, I want an owner who wants to win and is willing to spend on the luxury tax to keep a championship contender intact. As a kid I was a huge Oakland A's fan, and to see what happened to them cuz they have a shyt owner makes me sick

cuban sold

now celtics selling

these owners know something - maybe they think the league is finished after bron and curry retire

I think it's the TV deals. Something with the local TV channels having less control over the rights to air the NBA, and more power going to the bigger networks in CBS, Amazon, Disney/ESPN, etc. So that could mean less money in their pocket year after year

This might be the biggest positive out of all of this. People make fun of Steve Balmer, but building a new arena where you don't have to lease or share with another major team and get to have better control of scheduling and the facilities, is so much better
