UPDATE: It looks like Dekker is just being taken into the trade exception that the team generated when they traded Kyrie Irving to Boston.

Sorry for the misspelling. It’s ‘Dekker.’ He’s going into Cavs’ trade exception for Kyrie. Joe Vardon on Twitter

The Cavaliers haven’t made any moves at the forward position so far this offseason, and find themselves short-handed there after the departures of rotation mainstays LeBron James (pretty important guy) and Jeff Green.

Well, they’ve taken their first step towards remedying that.

Cleveland is finalizing a trade to acquire Los Angeles Clippers forward Sam Dekker, league sources tell ESPN.

Sides are still working through parameters, but it’s essentially Clippers clearing a roster spot and a chance for Dekker to get a better opportunity for minutes with Cavs. Adrian Wojnarowski on Twitter

Dekker hasn’t found his groove in the league so far, but found minutes on an injury ravaged Clippers squad last season that suddenly doesn’t have much room on their roster to give him a shot to prove himself.

The three-year man out of Wisconsin averaged 12.1 minutes in 2017-18 while averaging 4.2 points and 2.4 rebounds. He’s an energy guy that can play the three or the four defensively, which is something the Cavaliers desperately need. Unfortunately, he’ll struggle to survive at the three until his shooting gets better (he shot a hideous 16 percent from distance last season on 0.8 attempts per game.)

Details are not currently available for terms, so we’ll have to wait to judge the trade until later.

Really didn’t need it’s own thread :francis:

I really liked Dekker when we drafted him. Glad he is still getting run on a team. All of the Rockets ex players from that trade are still doing decent (Harrell, Dekker, Beverly).
