The whole "Soulja/ Soulja Rag" slang and camaflauge stuff comes from the Magnolia Projects, which is Juvenile's hood.
Soulja Slim aka Magnolia Slim was saying "soulja" on his early records in 1995 such as the very start of this verse (that P put on No Limit's Down South Hustlers compilation).
"Dig deep into the mind of the wild Magnolia/
And the projects that I come from is the the home of the souljas"
"I was local until ya heard me on Down South Hustlers, it was nation/
That soulja shyt is my creation/
Is it real, yeah, cause nikkas wearin' soldier rags and shyt/
Keepin' it trill"

And with those guest artists it was more a case of those artists wanting to be associated with the hotttest label at the time that had taken the top spot that No Limit had. That and the Houston connection was always there because Pen & Pixel, who did CMR's covers, and Southwest. Distribution were located in Houston. Bun B had been doing features with them since their early days and UGK actually almost signed to Cash Money in the 90's.
Such a thing to be proud ofits so much context to that statement........like u said cuz in the city "all reeboks classics" were called soljas........
but over time......these became the go to shoe........same with slangs........its the culture as it spread threw out the city...
Prime example.........the word "Whodi".........
most of yall will come some far fetch explaination ........but its a slang word that morphed into something different...
u gotta know the culture to understand.........
#Lesson 1.......
Whodi......... = "Whoa There" / "Whoa Now"........all the same.......basically means "Whats Up"
if u from the city then you know most of the slang comes from old people......Grandma's and Grandpa's
so if u a old person say "Whoa There"......it actually sounds like "Whodi".......
but being from "Downtown" we didnt used "Whodi".......we used "Whoa".....
"whats up whoa"......"whats-hatnin-Whoa"......thats a downtown thing.....
Drake used it in its proper context........."Im running threw the 6 with (my whoa's)"....
directly stolen from N.O. slang.......9th ward....is downtown....8th ward is downtown
7th ward is downtown....my ward.....6th ward is downtown......and nikkas from the
6th ward......slang is ********** who guessed*********** "I be running threw the 6 with my whoa's"
but it was specifically used "Uptown".......same as "Solja Ree"....... it was more of a "Uptown Thing"
same with Fiend......Mr Whomp-Whomp......or Mac the camouflage assassin
i scream "Whoa".......with Fiend......instead of saying "whoa"......
when he spoke.....he made the sound of a 18-wheeler....."Whomp"
thats a variation of "Whoa"........but he put his own touch on it....."Whomp"
and that morphed into "Whomp-Whomp".......into "Mr.Whomp-Whomp"
if u listen to BG " Chopper City" album he release a single called "Uptown Thing"......
not becuz it was a amazing song title......no it was a slang to differentiate "Uptown from Downtown"
"Solja-Rees" was a Uptown thing.......Military Theme was a Uptown thing......being "Bout it" was a Uptown thing
it was "Uptown Privilege" almost like "White Privilege"....... just being from "Uptown" u can lay claim to these things...
Like nikkas from the "Bronx" know its the home of "Hip Hop" facts.........nobody can change.....
being from the "Bronx" u can lay claim on that.....
But P aint no N.O. nikka like that to be laying claim to "slangs/terms".......
Master P is some dude who made his self in Cali.......
nikkas in New Orleans dont be wearing bulletproof vest..........
like that shyt is corny......thats who Master P is.......
nikka came to New Orleans with a bulletproof vest on.......
lookin like a clown.......nikka we throw head shots.......fukk yo vest
and yo fake ass Tupac-Style........thats not New Orleans......
walking around wit baseball bats and sunglasses.......thats not New Orleans.....
wifebeaters and khakis shorts................thats not New Orleans.......
Nikka killed his brother and he got the fukk up outta there....."Thats New Orleans"
He's not saying P killed his own brother. His brother got killed and P left the city before the same thing happened to him.Such a thing to be proud of
That wasn't a Magnolia thing the whole city was using the term soulja or warrior. And not just rappers either we all called each other that. Matter fact I still greet dudes with " wassup soulja" from time to time. In classic Master P fashion he bit that too and crowned his whole label souljas. No shade I'm just stating facts. It actually was a good thing when I think about it.
He's not saying P killed his own brother. His brother got killed and P left the city before the same thing happened to him.
im the nikka who put a lid on Gillie mouth.....for saying he made "Go Dj".....im the nikka who killed the lies about Yellaboy killing Mystikal sister.....it was so much fukkery and lies being told bout my city......
Young Nacho..........ima Certified Cash-Money-oligist.......
and im what most of guys consider old head......
ima 35 yr old born and breed and bleed New Orleans
thats my M.O. becuz i have spent quite a large amount of time
discussing New Orleans politics with dudes who got a masters
degree in New Orleans Hip Hop from music CD's
Case in point......this thread.......questions "why nobody called out CMR for biting NL"
CMR never jacked anything from NL.......its asinine like saying " why did all NY artist use samples"
cuz thats what nikkas in the East did...........like saying why do southern beats have heavy bass....
cuz thats what southern cats do.......
P aint no NO nikka like that............nobody ever noticed......
P, Silk and C-Murder dont even have a NO accent...........
i can go on and on...............
My thing is this when DJ AK came to life, and i realized
for a fact most of these dudes on here are cornballs.....and never know what the fukk
they talking about why entertain the bullshyt.........
when in fact nikkas talking bout the city i grew up in.........
just stupid shyt.........like Yella Boy killed Mystikal sister.........
fukk are yall talking bout...........
im the nikka who smashed the rumor years ago about Gillie
writing Go DJ...........showed yall nikkas on All Hip Hop
i been puttin rumors to rest and straightening out shyt
nikkas dont understand bout my city........but in reality
its really a waste of time........cuz this is the internet
You might be on to something here. In the Mr. Serv On interview I posted not to long ago, he said that him, Mystikal and C Murder were all in the military. You can see the military slang and dress in Mystikal's music prior to NL too. Even with his team being named The Boot Camp Clicc.
This was in '95 possibly recorded in '94.
P had bout it in 95 also as a hit. It wasn't two year's later. He blew blew two years later.UNLV came out with bout it in 95. P came out 2 years later. UNLV did create that shyt
Nikkas actin' like P ain't never seen NO before 1996Lol at nikkas saying p, silkk & c aint really from NO & dont have NO accents them nikkas super dupper country & NO wtf
Must be a cash money stan
