I think it's going to turn out that he's actually Rick's father. Rick's father used to be a good guy who got corrupted chasing the bag and when he found out his wife was pregnant he told her he'd follow her back to America but he didn't. He had someone tell her he was murdered.There’s no way Rick is alive when this season’s over. Left a man with deep connections and armed bodyguards alive, and is staying at the hotel his wife owns. He’s done.

Or he was never really that good of a guy(his wife was a mess afterall and water seeks its own level) and she hated him for abandoning her with their child so she told Rick that he was murdered so he would hate him as much as she did. She knew Rick might try to kill him and waiting until she was on her death bed to tell him was her getting a final lick back at him.
It's very intentional that he didn't speak, and when he repeated Rick's mothers name it looked like he was processing what he was told and piecing things together.
The thing I like the most about white lotus other than how it's filmed and acted is how Mike white shows just how depraved and fukked up rich people, especially rich whites can be. Aside from their sexual behaviors and how they use people, the way the just feel so entitled and think wealth makes them good people is disgusting. Their hypocrisy is entertaining as fuc too.
I really liked how the gun got stolen back. Like how is a thief going to be mad when someone steals back what he stole. Especially since he's stolen FAR MORE and is actively dreading the consequences of his actions.
