What really works about this season/the show for me:
- I have done a lot of luxury 5 star hotel travel/experiences, and all the dynamics always fascinate me, watching people
- The use of lighting, the shots are all really gorgeous. The detail of the set design. Shot on location.
-White's sharp satire of professional class/upper class pretensions and delusions, fears, and mannerisms
-The dudes line like "I would like it a lot more if you'd stop asking me"
-The sharpness and restraint in the dynamic of the three women. It's cutting, vicious writing, but it doesn't go too far over the top. A lot of women watching this are squirming because he hits that kind of passive aggressive, shallowness, exactly right. Doesn't miss anything. It's not that you can't talk about friends, of course, but I guess it's the criticism of other's choices....that feels so true to friend groups of women I know. Just like that. They cut each other down, on the pretense of concern.
-The lines, individually are hilarious. I mean these people who raise kids in New York? The kids can't play. She's always defined herself by her work. That's so dead on. Her daughter's a real brusier. That's too funny LOL She throws furniture!
-White loves a good white collar indictment, if you watch his movie Brad's Status, you see a very similar storyline
-His take on self care, wellness, all that shyt, is almost too on the nose, but still very good. I think I got the Amrita/Goggins scene. He is being underused as of now. He can be way funnier.
-His kind of observations about Buddhism and wellness and how Americans use those concepts
-The White Lotus became like an "it" show, which means it's over analyzed and dissected on social media, but it's always been very, very good.
-The scenes of the three friends makes me value my friendships lol when you can be authentic with someone, and have genuine interactions, that aren't based in that kind of superficial "omg you are so good", which I know has gendered origins, in some ways.
-Read something great about how a fixation on the body/your body is both a cause of, and result of anxiety. And I get the reasons why, gendered ones anyway, but all the women I know, the way they obsess over their bodies, not just the bra size or the waist, but the daily obsession with minor minor health details, skin tone, muscles, waxing, the face masks, the anti wrinkle cream, the body fat, it just must be such a fukking burden.
-but to have to TALK ABOUT IT ALL THE time is even worse.
