I can't disagree with her but at the same time, I know it's only a matter of time before she says "all men can't critique films made my women," so I'm wary of fully co-signing her. What do you brehs think of this?

Brie Larson doesn't hate white dudes, but wants more diversity in film criticism - CNN

(CNN) Brie Larson used an acceptance speech Wednesday to address the need for more inclusion among movie reviewers.

The "Captain Marvel" star received the Crystal Award for Excellence in Film at The 2018 Crystal + Lucy Awards and used her time at the podium to discuss a lack of diversity in film criticism.
Larson elicited applause when she said she didn't need "a white dude to tell me what didn't work for him about '[A] Wrinkle in Time.'"

"It wasn't made for him," Larson said. "I want to know what that film meant to women of color, to biracial women, to teen women of color, to teens that are biracial. And for the third time, I don't hate white dudes. These are just facts, these are not my feelings."

The facts Larson cited were from a recent study by the University of Southern California Annenberg Inclusion Initiative, which examined movie reviews.

The group looked at 100 top-grossing films of 2017 on the site Rotten Tomatoes to assess the gender and ethnicity of the critics and found that reviewers are overwhelmingly white and male.

According to the report, only 22% of nearly 20,000 reviews evaluated were written by women and 82% were authored by white critics.

In her speech, Larson called for this to change.

"What I am saying is that if you make a movie that is a love letter to women of color, there is an insanely low chance a woman of color will have the chance to see your movie and review your movie," she said. "We need to be conscious of our bias and make sure that everyone is in the room."

"A Wrinkle In Time" director Ava DuVernay praised Larson's comments, calling the actress and filmmaker "a warrior" in a tweet.

She knows the white nerds bout to rage quit the MCU soon as that Captain Marvel shyt drop so she's been instructed by Disney to
step up the pandering to "women of color" to hopefully get that Black Panther stimulus.

If all the Tumblr feminists make Captain Marvel they avatar the shyt will be bulletproof to critics

Precisely why it's BS, Ernie.

Either people are allowed to offer their opinions regardless of color and gender or they aren't.

There is absolutely nothing stopping anyone from starting their own blog and/or publishing their own reviews. Everyone online and on social media is a film critic anyway.

A Wrinkle In Time didn't get torn apart or bomb at the box office because there aren't enough black women reviewing films. It's because the film was :trash:

this is not our problem, how many black owned media conglomerates are there, how many movie critics are there that are minorities??? :manny: well brie lawson should ask the big 6 why there are not more diverse in their media holdings....

I disagree, it's a problem for anyone who isn't a white male. It's why a lot of media by people of color get mild to negative reviews, things are lost in translation by the very critics she describes. Why is it that a lot of media looked favorably upon by the black community especially some comedies aren't by those same critics? Look through the recommendation threads in The Film Room for Blassics and look up their corresponding industry reviews, you'll see a stark difference in their reception.

White females don't have our collective backs, thats why I'm not fully co-signing her because when it comes time to turn up and demand equality across the board for all of us they quiet as a church mouse... :beli:
