Yeah I can't believe that is the split either. So far all the stories about the fight from reputable sites state that neither side has revealed exactly what the payouts are only that Cotto is getting more than Canelo.

So the purse bid is Cotto gets $10 million and Canelo gets $6.5
They agreed to a 60/40 split on the backend so if the fight is as successful as they all hope it will be (gate and PPV) then all together Cotto could end up walking away with $22 million.
The article mentions the $12 million that Mandalay Bay offered as being what got COtto to agree to Vegas over NY but it doesn't say he got the entirety of that payout and Canelo got nothing. I am sure that was split between the two fighters too (probably at 60/40 also).
