6'10" ain't gonna EVER be the standard but shyt 6'6'" is pretty close to it. Especially going forward. I mean cmon now don't quote me on this but weren't Roy Jones Jr. And James Toney heavyweight champs at some point? You really want to see Roy Jones Jr. or James Toney fighting Vladamir or Deontay?
Like I said, I do understand where you're coming from. I mean, there are weight divisions in combat sports for a reason. I just kinda don't think it would work logistically.
It's worth noting, MMA does have a Super division, it's set at 265 plus. Even Wilder and Wladimir have never been that heavy. I think Lewis used to be around 245. Same with Vitali. So those guys would have be heavies anyways (Assuming boxing used the same weight classes. Which brings up the point..where do you think the cut-off point should be?)
Valuev is the only guy I can think of who was really over that weight. Maybe if he had been really dominant, there would be more of an argument (I personally would ask however, who would his opponents have been? Or would he have been expected to cut like 70-80 pounds? )
Jones was just making history with his fight...and Toney just didn't need to be at that weight at all. And that's kinda the point...if you're hovering around the heavy division, either suck it up and cut weight, or hit the gym and put on some pounds. That's kinda what's special about heavies to me...that 'enter at your own risk' aspect of the division.
Most important however....nobody seems to care about the super-heavies in UFC. I don't think I've ever seen them have a fight at that weight. I just don't think it would work. The truth is that men that heavy, who are also athletic enough for combat sports, and who actually want to be in combar sports, are kinda rare enough as is. You set a limit on them, and we'd just end up with two thinner (npi) divisions.
Edit : One more thing about MMA, it kinda makes more sense for them to need the SH division, because they have wrestling and and more grappling. While you're clearly at a disadvantage fighting boxers heavier than you, it's not like you have to fight off shoots and throws.
