Why don't you look at the opponents they fought. Canelo's last 2 opponents were Angulo and Lara, and Cotto's last opponent was Sergio. None of those guys have fanbases. Good/great fighters, but nobody gives a fukk about them.
Floyd/Maidana was a disappointment because the network has so much invested in Floyd, that selling 800k isn't getting their money's worth. The other 2 don't nearly have as much invested in them. None of those 3 draw well when nobody gives a fukk about their opponents. But when they do, the numbers come out big. Why do you think Canelo and Cotto were 2 of Floyd's biggest fights? Because they were opponents that came with their own fanbases, big ones at that.
Put Canelo against Cotto and their fanbases, and there's no way that it doesn't do at least 1 mil. Especially considering the day it's on, the fanbases involved, and the rivalry they have against each other. Floyd can't fight a Maidana-like guy next year and expect to outdraw those guys.
Oh and as for your "fact"... they do that with Cotto and Canelo too. Canelo's last 2 fight dates were announced before the opponent was. Same with Cotto.
