FIrst off, this isn't a religion bashing thread. I just want to know what HL thinks. Most of our basic laws against murder, stealing, etc. are based on The Ten Commandments, but their are many modern laws that have no basis in religion, i.e. traffic laws, antitrust laws, etc. Is it possible to have a moral compass without a religious foundation?? Speak on it...

religious people are some of the most immoral people in the world :stopitslime:

Mao Zedong, Hitler, and Stalin would like a word with you. Why don't you just say that human beings are moral by nature, hence the reason for laws?

To the thread starter...the laws out side of the 10 commandments, which are moral laws are civil laws which are not necessarily moral but still govern behavior such as traffic laws. Some civil and other customary laws do have moral ties that can tie back to the 10 commandments. For Jews, Leviticus and Deuteronomy were such laws. Anything in these that are considered an abomination to God were also found in these books...homosexual behavior, sleeping with an animal, eating/drinking animal with the blood, etc.

Many atheists, humanists and non-religious peoples moral beliefs still has have roots in the bible and jewish law...whether they want to believe it or not.

Please dont degrade and disrespect the old ways, friends. We are not as advanced as demons would like to believe in modern times. Especially when you cosign men in dresses using the ladies room in elementary school.

Its so demonic, friends.

you dont need religion for morals, you need a relationship. as long as you have to deal with another human, you will need something to guide your behavior so that you can:

a) keep the relationship alive
b) benefit from the relationship

getting people to buy into your morals can be done in a multitude of ways. playing on people's fears and telling them things that can't be easily proven or disproven is a very effective means to that end. we call that religion now

communists have morals too, and they didnt get them from the bible. people were around up to a couple hundred thousand years before any of our current religions existed, and they had morals because of the stuff i mentioned.

Atheism is mental sickness
So not believing in things that don't have any evidence to support them is insanity/delusional? :usure:

The various realms of atheism is more about doubt/uncertainty than anything else. Is it insane to have doubt?

I reject the notion that something came from nothing
