I mean it’s hip hop clubs, black barbershops, salons, black businesses in all these cities where our population is small but you can’t turn Seattle WA into Baltimore MD it’s just not going to happen.
You think there isn’t a Black barber shop in Peoria or Portland?

You could get your hair cut at a white shop but most brehs aint going there so best believe a breh with a Master Barber license moved to Boise to cut the Brehs on the University of Idaho team’s hair.

Actually I had a barber in Raleigh that was well known Ice Cube came in for a cut and Grant Hill went their despite there being many shops in Durham.

Hip Hop music is global I saw a Hip Hop film made in Poland.

I flirt with the possibility of venturing out to the Pacific Northwest or Mountain time states just for the fact that I love that area of the country weather wise and geographically

But I do worry about being too out of my element out there and the fact that it's the unknown to me. I already know dating wise I could cleanup big time as a young upwardly mobile black man because it ain't too many of us out that way.:manny:You're gonna be more of a rarity
Yeah a lot of them fetishize black men just to say they’ve been with one. But Portland Oregon will never be Jackson MS. You just gotta know that if you make that move.

No I know there are black barbershops there. We allowed to have businesses. That’s not what I’m saying. What I’m saying is you not going to change the culture of the city just because you move there so don’t expect to. One thing about Baltimore that is distinctive is the house music. Every city has a culture. When black people move places we automatically expect it to be like where we’re from and a lot of times it’s not. Especially when we have lower numbers.

Well what you’re saying is obvious as far as the overall culture but what’s played on the radio in the city isn’t why Black people move to e city.

Also teenagers and early 20’s people make and shape culture so If you moved to Montana no you won’t change the culture but your kids will. And we’re talking about super lilly white places once there’s enough Black people to form a hood the culture is affected.

I dont think this is as big a problem as you think. Is this something you are hearing? Most people leave with an expectation of what they expect a place to be like. And visiting somewhere can be very different than living there. I dont understand the racial aspect your discussing. I think most people know there wont be black people sprawling all over Denver, when they move there from Atlanta.

You right but the south still the south it ain’t going to change the culture is embedded. So my thing is just know where you’re moving and what to expect. Don’t expect it to be like where you’re from.

Na this is just from visiting places. A person coming from ATL a black metro will still look for the black areas in Denver or Aurora. My thing is when you move to these places don’t expect it to be where you’re from. Not saying you can’t mingle in their community it’s just not going to be the same and most people think it is when they move and they constantly compare.

Once enough black people show up they normally leave. What I’m saying is we can’t expect these areas to be like where we’re from but a lot of people do. When people from NY move here all they do is complain it’s slower here.

I think thats natural. Most people move to go to a better place then they moved from. So when you get there and realize it aint what you thought:francis:

But your right, this is good advice if you catch yourself overly comparing. Some people subconsciously do that to find reasons to go back home where its comfortable. So i think people should challenge themselves to find ways to make the new place as good as the one they left.

Its almost impossible not to compare. But some people want the same comfortability and familiarity over night.

Already decided the whole city is rude after being their two weeks huh:gucci:?

so what are you saying? Instead of making a thread with a question you should’ve made one with a statement.

I guess you’re saying that when Black people move to Oklahoma white folk say There goes the neighborhood?

But to your direct question Emenem was from the white side of Detroit and he became a rapper.

He didn’t become “Black “ he didn’t date Black women or nothing like that he maintained who he was but he rapped so he was in the culture without being in the culture.

I’m from the south we raised differently. I’m raised with manners to speak when I walk into a room, hold the door, yes ma’am/yes sir etc. My first time going to NYC people walk past you bump you and don’t say excuse me. That messed with me. That’s cool to love where you from. The main thing is to adapt if you move somewhere new. Which is why I said don’t expect to change the culture of that city. Just adapt.

Eminem didn’t maintain who he was when he first came out they was saying he was trying to sound like Az/Nas. He didn’t date black women? We forgot about the foolish pride track? Not to derail my thread what I’m saying is all cites have culture. As black people when we go to areas where our population is small don’t complain and compare get the most of it.
