Can we talk about how poorly Peter Parker was treated during the OG trilogy

That was pretty accurate to the comics though. Peter is supposed to be a dude with a crappy life who constantly gets shytted on. Being Spiderman is pretty much his escape from all the misery. Dude is the Charlie Brown of superheroes lol
That's one of the things I didn't like about Homecoming

Peter didn't seem like a loser or nerd at all. So him saying "without Spiderman, I'm nothing :damn:" doesn't make any sense.

Yup

And it’s the reason why I liked the ending of No Way Home. They finally gave him a crappy life lol

Spiderman 2 was excellent at showing how hard life is as a superhero. It was a montage of gutter living for him. Aunt May barely having $20 for the mortgage and still gives it to Peter.

Best friend hates him. MJ scoffing at his poetry. Powers not working. Ungrateful city and job. Late on the rent to a man who keeps his door open when you try to sneak in.

:picard:

The other Spidermen have lived life on easy mode.

SM2 was the shyt for several reasons but this is one of the most important. Pete was going through it because of his double life, he could excel in either one if he dedicated himself to it wholly but that's just not who he is.

@MartyMcFly can we get some verification that Parker is in fact supposed to be a certified bytch?

Sam Rami captured Spider-man perfectly. He is a self-made working class hero, that gets up and goes to work despite being under appreciate, over worked, and broke. Peter carries this burden alone and despite getting all kinds of shyt from family, friends, and love interests still does it because it is what is best for everyone. No way home finally captures that at the end because the underlying trait of Spider-Man’s journey is self-sacrifice and selflessness

Nah. Peter had a backbone. Did he take a lot of shyt he didn’t have to take to keep his secret? Of course. And his life was complicated because of Spider-Man less about his actual life sucking. Pete’s main issue personally was the money issues. He never had enough. And never had enough to help May and that fukked with him.
Pete’s issue in his social life was always lack of confidence and thinking nobody got him. Eventually he got that though through being Spider-Man when his true self came out. And eventually that’s who he was. But it’s always about him sacrificing for the greater good.

But he stood up for himself. He “developed a lot more than a backbone” to quote a cartoon and it wasn’t because of a symbiote.
Spectacular Spider-Man illustrates this better than the movies for me. Pete is definitely shyt on but he isn’t some wallflower who never stands up for himself either.

That said, that scene is perfect. Captures the dichotomy of his life. And the burden and responsibility.
