This album is to Redman what Vol. 2 is to Jay-Z. Redman made his most accessible album with this one, he showed he could appeal to the mainstream but still keep it hood, funny and witty. I remember this album being really big in 98' a lot like Jay's Vol. 2 but in years since it's come out it's become an overlooked album. But Doc's Da Name is my second favorite Redman album behind Muddy Waters, then Whut Thee Album and then Dare Iz A Darkside.

Doc's Da Name is just as classic as Muddy Waters, Whut Thee Album and Dare Iz A Darkside.

Redman covering Ice Cube's One Upon In the Projects was just classic! :ahh:

Red's flow and rhymes on ^this^ were just crazy. :noah:

Oh yeah and then he covered the Beastie Boys with The Beet Drop:

And who could forgot this classic song and video match up?

Keep On 99' was one of my favorites as well, this beat is just :wow:

Red wasn't even on this track but his sister Roz and his cousin Tame One did their thing on this posse track:

I agree, and I copped it on cassette too.

But, it is as good as Muddy Waters to me, and always was. My favorite joint was Grown Man shyt, or whatever it was called. I remember being on the train with that shyt in my walkman buggin off it!

I don't know if anyone else remembers these specific moments with songs to them and shyt, like not when you lost your virginity or whatever, but inconsequential moments. I just remember this one time being mad high, standing on the Uptown platform at 125 waiting on the 6, and Grown Man shyt was playing and I was just laughing and feeling that shyt HARD.

Yeah, Doc's Da Name, OutKast's Aquemini and DJ Quik's Rhythm-al-ism album were the albums that got the most play by me in 98'.

It was okay. It was a big let down compared to the rest of his albums. But Def Jam was really pushing that sound in 98. Music was changing and cleaner sounds with more of a keyboard sound and radio influence was really taking center stage. Def Jam was leading the pack with that sound.

It really depends on your age imo. It's a good album but a softer sound from Redman.
